Charleston and Beaufort, S.C.

Wed, Oct. 19   Arrived in Charleston   Docked on the Mega Dock in Charleston. This dock is 1/4 mile long. Golf carts pick you up to take you to the van which drives you into town.  Our Mainships were the baby boats on the dock. Even my favorite 55 Fleming looked dwarfed on this dock.  The mega yachts from Annapolis were docked on this pier. The average yacht between 80-100 feet. I learned that the owners don't travel on their yachts. The Captains and crew move the yachts and the owners fly into port. Ate the best ribs at Nick and Jim's on King Street.  Charleston is one of the most beautiful cities on the East coast.  Fantastic old homes and a beautiful park along the waterfront. Ate dinner at SNOBS (Slightly North of Broad Street). One of the best meals I have ever eaten.
Oct. 23   Beaufort, SC.  A small beautiful city. Historic homes line the streets. Giant old Live Oaks full of Spanish Moss are everywhere. Beautiful park along the waterfront.

Norfolk Harbor

Arrived in Moorehead City, North Carolina on Thursday, 0ct 14.

Oct. 8- Departed on our trip with beautiful weather and flat seas.  Crossing the mouth of the Potomac River was calm and enjoyable.  Spent the night anchored in Mill Creek, Va.

Oct  9-Warm, sunny day.  Easy trip down the bay to Norfolk.  Very exciting  entering Norfolk Harbor  and seeing all the huge Navy and commercial boats. Spent night at Waterside Marina in Norfolk Harbor.

Oct 10- Waved to Doris from the pilot house of the Portsmouth Ferry as I traveled with the captain. I was going to West Marine to buy steering fluid. Left Norfolk at 11:30, traveled through Norfolk, took a right and entered the Dismal Swamp. Tree lined, narrow canal.  Major steering problem. Spent the nite at the Visitor's Center.

Oct. 11-  Conntinued along canal.  Traveled through 2 locks. Fun experience. Spent the nite at the free docks in Elizabeth City.  The most friendly southern town. The grocery store sent a car for us. The town hosted cocktails at 5:00. One of the county commissioners is a mechanic and came on board and fixed our steering problem. Air in lines, added steering fluid. People are so friendly and helpful.

Oct. 12-  Crossed Pamlico sound. A little bumpy. Everything was tied down for the crossing. Happy to get to the other side. Entered Alligator River to Alligator Pungo Canal. Anchored in Belhaven Harbor. Celebrated Carolyn and Bob's anniversary.

Oct. 13- Arrived in Oriental around 1:00. Anchored in Greens Creek. Beautiful. Dingy to town. Happy Hour at M and M's. Ran into old friend at the bar. She and her husband were off to the Bahamas.

Oct. 14- Arrived in Morehead city and docked at Spooner Creek Marina. Visited Carolyn's and Bob's friends who gave us a tour of the area as well as Beaufort. Beaufort is a great small boating town. All of the boats at the marina were about 65 ft or longer and are heading South to Florida and beyond.

Oct. 15- Getting ready to head to Wrightville Beach.
